YMC and Cubitts collaborate for Spring Summer 2025. YMC creative director Sage Toda-Nation and Cubitts drew upon inspiration from the personal styles of Japanese filmmakers Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano - both renowned for wearing sunglasses whilst directing - to create two new designs. Both styles pay homage to the 1990s—the era in which YMC was founded— and capture the spirit and pioneering designs of the time.
Akira is a statement style, with a sharply chamfered front and rectangular silhouette. Oversize, wraparound temples - the biggest Cubitts have ever designed - give the frame a futuristic feel. Kitano, on the other hand, embraces the minimalism of the 90s - a slim rectangular shape complemented by flared temples and precise bent-lug detail.
